Former Green Eagles Coach, Chief Adegboye Onigbinde, has described the wife of late Teslim “Thunder” Balogun as a great support and motivating factor for the football legend’s successful playing and coaching career and contributions to the development of football in Nigeria.
Chief Onigbinde made the remark ahead of the 14th year remembrance of the football
icon’s wife, Alhaja Mulikat Teslim Balogun, billed for Friday, May 25.
Buttressing Chief Onigbinde’s statement, former chairman of the Lagos Island LCDA, Alhaji Nosiru Kadiku, revealed that Mrs Mulikat Balogun was greatly instrumental to the success of the Western Rovers Football Club in their campaign for the 1958 Challenge Cup competition.
Kadiku explains her contributions thus: “She was generally regarded as the twelfth for Rovers in that season. The competition among the regions was tense.
The stakes were high and the Government of the Western Region wanted to win the cup for
its pride and as a way to promoting and enhancing football development in the region.
They felt they had to deploy all arsenal including reaching out to and engaging the best players that could be available to them.
Thunder Balogun was out of the country, already playing and making waves in Queens Park Rangers in the English Premier League.
