Adepoju: 3SC will continue to improve

Shooting Stars Sports Club of Ibadan Club Manager, Mutiu Adepoju, is confident that the side will continue to push for a good finish in the Nigeria Premier League following the recent surge of form that saw the team beating Ocean Boys 2-1 away from home last weekend.

The club struggled in the first half of the season but has since improved since the sacking of coach Festus Allen and the promotion of his assistant Tunde Odubola to head coach.

With 3SC now in the top half of the league table, Adepoju believes that things can only get better as the season nears its climax.

“That away win was so delightful, but we are not where we want to be yet. Everybody knows what 3SC stands for. I mean its pedigree, history and tradition. So, we can understand the pressure from certain quarters,” the former Super Eagles midfielder told Complete Sports.

“To win an away game in the Nigeria Premier League is not easy, but our players put in their best and we are all happy that the team is moving gradually into a place of reckoning where it
rightly belongs. We are all working hard to make sure that we get there and by God’s grace, we will end this season on a high despite the slow start.”

Adepoju also appraised the performance of the Super Eagles in their 2014 FIFA World Cup qualifier in Calabar on Sunday and gave kudos to Stephen Keshi for the 'new dawn' in the team.

He said:“The rebuilding process which Keshi has embarked upon is gradually coming into fruition, and I am happy that the team secured all the three points at stake last Sunday.

“That’s the most important thing but there is still a lot to be done so that the subsequent results will put the team in a steady position ahead of the conclusion of the qualifiers. Malawi is next and they should go for it. But it’s not easy building a new team with home-based stars taking a fair share of the available positions. Hopefully, we will get there just like in the time of Westerhof.”
