Underdogs Italy overcame Germany 2-1 in Warsaw to advance to face Spain in the final of Euro 2012 thanks to a fine brace from Mario Balotelli.

Germany started the game well and forced Andrea Pirlo to clear off his own line inside five minutes, but soon after Italy went ahead as Antonio Cassano crossed for Balotelli to head home from close range.

With Germany struggling, Balotelli then latched on to a long through ball to smash home a second past Manuel Neuer and put the game to bed before half-time. Mesut Ozil's last-minute penalty was not enough to prevent Germany's suffering their first defeat in a competitive game since their World Cup semi-final loss to Spain two years ago.
