Former Secretary-General of the Nigeria Football Association, Chief Taiwo Ogunjobi, has pleaded with Nigerians not to castigate the Super Eagles in the aftermath of the team’s 1-1 draw away to Flames of Malawi in Saturday’s FIFA World Cup qualifier in Blantyre.

“We don’t need to condemn the team on account of the draw. Such is part of the game and it is this unexpected aspect of the game that makes it tick,” Ogunjobi, Chairman of Osun State Football Association, told Complete Sports on Monday.

“As far as I’m concerned, the result was not a bad one. Instead of castigating the team, we should rather commend them because that one point they secured is very vital in such a campaign.”

The former Chairman of the NFA Technical Committee believes the team can build on
their performance in Blantyre.

“This team is still evolving and they cannot be complete and compact overnight. They can only improve with every game so I think they can take the positives from that performance in Malawi.

“No player should be singled out for blame, not even Vincent Enyeama. I believe against Rwanda this weekend, they will come out better both in performance and in result.

“Yes, the match against Rwanda is one that a winner must emerge. And I believe the Eagles will be the winners at the end of the day because the players know what is at stake. They must have learnt from their performance in Malawi and of course, the Technical crew would have corrected lapses noticed in the last match so they can come out better against Rwanda,” Ogunjobi stressed.
