ARSENAL’S SONG LEADS 3 OTHERS TO NIGERIA

Ex-International and a representative of DaJan Sports WaidiAkanni has confirmed to Complete Sports that four first team players and a reserve coach from Arsenal FC will be in the country for a four-day coaching clinic after the team’s much hyped tour of Nigeria was postponed due to logistics reasons.

The North London club had planned to visit Nigeria for the first time in 19 years for a match against the Super Eagles in Abuja on the 5th of August, but the club’s decision to call it off may not be unconnected with the fact that the pitch of the Abuja national stadium where the match should have taken place is not in a very good condition.

According to Akanni, Arsena’slCamerounian midfielder Alex Song and three others players will be in Nigeria to reassure Nigerians and the partners that they will be in Nigeria on tour next season when all logistics are expected to meet the required standard.

“I can confirm to you that four Arsenal players and a coach (not Arsene Wenger) will be in Nigeria to show their commitment to the tour of Nigeria,” the former youth international told Complete Sports.

“The major reason why the tour was postponed could be attributed to the present condition of the playing turf of Abuja stadium because even if the turf is fixed, it would require more time to be in good shape,” he added.

Arsenal are due to play three games in Asia, starting in Kuala Lumpur on July 24. They face Premier League champions Manchester City in the inaugural China Cup inside the Bird’s Nest stadium in Beijing on July 27 before concluding their tour with a match against Hong Kong champions Kitchee FC.
