OBAFEMI: I’LL PLAY MY WAY BACK INTO EAGLES

Out-of-favour Super Eagles striker Obafemi Martins has vowed to play his way back into the Super Eagles after posting a stellar performance for Rubin Kazan in the their 2-0 win over league champions Zenit St Petersburg in Saturday's Russian Super Cup clash.

Martins who is yet to feature for the Super Eagles under Stephen Keshi since his appointment played for 69 minutes in the encounter and promised that he could be relied on by the team handlers as they seek a permanent solution to the national team's striking problems.

"I have not lost touch doing what I know to do best and I will play myself back to the national team with my club performance," the former Inter Milan striker who has been linked with a move away from Russia told Complete Sports.

"I'm in great shape and want to get more games to get the chance to prove myself in the Eagles once again. Don't write me off, I'm still the same patriotic Obagol. Football is about team work, and I'm very glad that we won our first trophy of the season.

“Nigeria have a crucial game in September in Monrovia against Liberia and I want to help my country scale that hurdle."

Martins also refused to comment on his future at Rubin Kazan after recent reports had linked him away to top clubs in Europe this summer.

He added: "It's true offers came from West Brom and Levante,  but I don't want to fuel what's not concrete at the moment because I want to play football this season. I love Kazan and I don't want to talk about any transfer for now."

Super Eagles coach Stephen Keshi  recently said  that other Europe-based professionals who were not invited for the June games against Namibia, Malawi and Rwanda are still important in the national team set-up.
