Out-of-favour Super Eagles striker Emmanuel Emenike scored Spartak Moscow's first goal as the Russian side defeated Fenerbache 2-1 in last night's first leg match of the UEFA Champions League play-off tie at the Luzhniki stadium in Moscow.
Emenike scored a 59th minute goal against his former club who paraded Eagles skipper Joseph Yobo for the entire duration of the encounter.
It was Emenike's third goal of the new season in all competitions, while for Yobo, it was his first game for Fenerbache since completing his permanent switch from Everton.
In Germany, Super Eagles duo of Brown Ideye and Taye Taiwo played all 90 minutes for Dynamo Kiev as they hammered hosts Borussia Mönchengladbach 3-1. While Ideye failed to score in his second consecutive game, Taiwo was yellow-carded in the 82nd minute for a reckless tackle.
Another Nigerian, Ayila Yussuf, was an unused substitute in the encounter, just as former Flying Eagles skipper Haruna Lukman was not listed for action.
In Sweden, former youth international Rabiu Ibrahim was not listed for action as Celtic defeated Helsingborg 2-0 in another UCL play-off game.
Also last night at the London Road stadium in London, former Super Eagles defender Danny Shittu was an unused substitute for Millwall in their 2-1 away win over Peterborough. The 31- year-old former QPR player made his debut for the club last Saturday in their 2-0 loss to Blackpool.
Meanwhile, Super Eagles midfielder, Kalu Uche, played the entire duration on his debut for Kasimpasa in their 2-1 loss to reigning champions Galatasaray on Monday.
