UZOENYI: NIGER TIE IS DRESS REHEARSAL FOR LIBERIA
Posted: Aug 08, 2012
Super Eagles mid-fielder, Ejike Uzoenyi has declared that the international friendly match between Nigeria and Niger Republic will be a good rehearsal for the team's preparation for the Nations Cup qualifier against Liberia in Monrovia on September 8.
Uzoenyi, who plies his trade on the domestic Premier League with Rangers, insists that the game against the Menas of Niger is crucial in the team's determination to qualify for the 2013 Nations Cup.
"We are looking forward to the match in Niamey with a lot of excitement knowing the importance of the game", Uzoenyi told Complete Sports from the Super Eagles Bolton White Apartment Hotel Camp, in Abuja.
"As a fellow West African team, they will come out strong on us but it will be to our own advantage because it will on prepare us for the bigger challenge ahead of us which is the match against Liberia".
The one time Gateway of Abeokuta diminutive midfielder further disclosed that helping the Eagles qualify for the Nations Cup is paramount in his mind since it will give him the opportunity to play in his first Nations Cup finals.
"No doubt Liberia will be a difficult opposition because they too want to go to the Nations Cup. So we have to give it our best attention because I want to play in the Nations Cup just like any other player.
"Come to think of it, Nigeria was not at the last edition of the competition so it will be bad if we fail to qualify for the 2013 edition.
"I was a member of the 2010 team that won the WAFU Nations Cup trophy in Abeokuta. I have not played in the African Cup of Nations so I want to be part of the team in 2013 in South Africa.
"That is my dream and for us to achieve it, we must ensure victory over Liberia, come September 8 in Monrovia", Uzoenyi posited.
