Flamingoes Coach Eyes Many Goals

Flamingoes coach, Peter Dedevbo, has charged his strikers not to be lackadaisical in front of goal during the FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup to be hosted by Azerbaijan later this month.

The team, who are currently on a training tour in Portugal to perfect strategies, have been playing a series of friendly matches and the coach believes the real test will come during the tournament proper.

“Every opportunity to score a goal must be positively converted as you might never get another chance. Often times in a match, it’s the team that takes advantage of their scoring opportunities that come out tops,” admonished Dedevbo.

The coach, who has been emphasizing on being quick on the ball, also said he and his assistants are confident the girls will deliver, adding that converting every chance created in the first match will be a morale booster for subsequent matches in the World Cup.

The defence was not also left unchecked as the coach tasked the team on avoiding mistakes in their goal area. He spent quality time drilling the defenders on ways of clearing and tackling in their goal area, positioning against free kicks was also given attention during trainings.

The team has continued to train twice daily, coupled with a daily workout at the gym, as well as swimming.
The World Cup in Azerbaijan kicks-off 22 September-13 October and Nigeria are drawn in Group A with hosts, Azerbaijan, Colombia and Canada.
