Manchester United did make an offer, thought to be up to £130 million, for Barcelona forward Neymar during the transfer window, his father has claimed.
There was speculation Louis van Gaal and United Chief Executive Ed Woodward made an approach for the 23-year-old Brazilian in the final weeks of the summer window.
Now his father, Neymar da Silva Santos who also acts as his son’s representative, has claimed United did make an offer for the former Santos star only for the bid to be knocked back by the Spanish giants.
“Man United’s offer came to Barça and they told us they won’t sell. They asked if we were interested but that wasn’t the case,” Neymar senior told Brazilian publication Globo.
“Barcelona does not want to sell because Neymar has a three-year contract.”
Globo says United’s bid for Neymar was rumoured to be 760 million Brazilian reals (£130million), which would’ve been a world record transfer.
