NFF: No Plan To Replace Amuneke

–FA vow to support U-17 coach

Nigeria Football Federation, NFF have revealed that there is no plan to replace Emmanuel Amuneke as coach of the National U-17 Golden Eaglets following their fourth place finish at the recently concluded CAF African U-17 Championship in Niger.

This followed speculation that the football house is planning to second both Coach Manu Garba and Nduka Ugbade to the junior team when the FIFA U-17 World Cup gets underway in Chile later in the year.

Spokesman of Nigeria Football Federation, Ademola Olajire who spoke to Complete Sports at the weekend said the speculation was not in any way true and it should not be taken for anything, saying the leadership of the FA is solidly behind the coach despite his inability to win the junior tournament in Niger.

“I don’t know why people should be speculating such story that has no truth, the FA said immediately after the tournament in Niger that we are giving our backing to Coach Emmanuel Amuneke and we are going to support him in all ways to make sure the team succeeds in Chile”, begins Olajire.

“The tournament was not a do or die affair, they were able to get Nigerians the World Cup ticket and I think we should commend them for that. More so, both Coach Manu Garba and Nduka Ugbade have their teams and they have also qualified for U-20 World Cup, if they are taking to the U-17, who will lead the U-20?, so we should be very careful in some of the things we do”, he added.

Olajire however called on Nigerians to support the team, saying the team will get better before the World Cup in Chile.

They should start preparing for 2017 U17 already and forget this year tournament, we all know if Nigeria under age team performed poorly on the africa stage the same will be repeated on the world stage,i dont see how they going to start injecting new players now before the WC, so just go there and do what you want to do..
