Irked by the incessant reports of match fixing and collection of gratifications by match commissioners and referees,the Nigeria Football Federation has warned that it will not only sanction culprits but also presecute them.
Chairman of the NFF Match Commissioners appointment committee Hon Suleiman Kwande who divulgeD this at THE Match Commissioners’ seminar in Abuja yesterday urged match officials to help in the development of the game by doing the right thing.
Kwande revealed officials who collect gratification or aid or abet match-fixing will be sanctioned then handed over to the appropriate authorities for prosecution.
He charged the match commissioners to try to be above board by reporting the exact thing that happened and to reject any form of gratification adding that a monitoring team will be on the look out for those who failed to comply.
Also speaking at the occasion, NFF president Amaju Pinnick who was represented by Alh. Ibrahim Musa Gusau told the match commissioners that there are plans to raise their profile and ensure the rapid development of referees.
He said the NFF is worried that Nigerian referees were not developing at the same rate of players and coaches adding that the federation is taking the issue very serious and for the right things to be done.
Over 400 match commissioners drawn from the north states participated in the two-day seminar. The states from the south will take their turn today.
