The Home-based Super Eagles kicked off the opening game of their Africa Nations Championship on a fanastic note with 4-1 win against Niger Republic.
On Friday, the Eagles will take on former winners of the competition Tunisia, and a win will secure their place in the quarter-finals.
Ahead of the Friday's crucial Group C match, Completesportsnigeria.com's JAMES AGBEREBI takes a look at how Nigeria have fared against Tunisia in four previous meetings at the Africa Cup of Nations.
NIGERIA 2-0 TUNISIA (walk-0ver after Tunisia walkout: 1978 AFCON, 3RD PLACE MATCH)
After losing 2-1 to Uganda in the semi-final, at the 1978 Africa Cup of Nations in Ghana, Nigeria took on Tunisia in the third place match.
Mohamed Akid gave Tunisia the lead on 19 minutes. Baba Otu Mohammed drew Nigeria level in the 42nd minute.
The match was abandoned after Tunisia walked off in the 42nd minute with the score tied at 1-1, protesting against the officiating. Nigeria were awarded a 2-0 win, and Tunisia were banned from CAF competitions for two years.
NIGERIA 4-2 TUNISIA (2000 AFCON, GROUP STAGE)
Nigeria met Tunisia for the second time at the Africa Cup of Nations, when it was co-hosted by Nigeria and Ghana in 2000.
Both teams were in Group A along with Congo Brazzaville and Morocco.
In the first game of the group, a brace each from Austin Okocha and Victor Ikpeba, gave Nigeria a 4-2 win against Tunisia.
Nigeria and Tunisia both qualified from the group and made it beyond the quarter-finals. While Nigeria lost to Cameroon in the final, Tunisia were defeated by South Africa in the third place match.
TUNISIA 5-3pen. NIGERIA (1-1 a.e.t. – 2004 AFCON, S/FINALS)
Tunisia hosted the Cup of Nations for the third time (previously hosted in 1965 and 1994). After navigating their way up to the semi-final, Tunisia squared up against an Austin Okocha-led Nigerian side.
Okocha put Nigeria ahead from the penalty spot on 67 minutes after Nwankwo Kanu was fouled. But Khaled Badra equalized for Tunisia in the 82nd minute also from the penalty spot.
Tunisia went on to win the game 5-3 on penalty shootout after Osaze Odemwingie missed for Nigeria.
NIGERIA 6-5pen. TUNISIA (1-1 a.e.t. – 2006 AFCON, QUARTER-FINALS,
The 2006 Africa Cup of Nations in Egypt, saw Nigeria and Tunisia cross path for the third time in four editions.
It was in the quarter-finals, with Nigeria taking a sixth minute lead through Obinna Nsofor. But in the 49th minute, Karim Haggui, drew Tunisia level.
The game went into penalty shootout after regulation time had ended 1-1. Nigeria avenged their 2004 defeat by winning 6-5, thanks to the heroics of Vincent Enyeama.
