Nigeria U-23s will square off against a rampaging German side in the semi-finals of the men's football event at the on-going Rio Olympic Games.
This is the first meeting between both countries at the Olympic Games.
But the two countries have crossed paths at the U-17, U-20 and senior level.

Nigeria's first ever meeting against Germany (known then as West German then) at any level was in the final of the maiden edition of the FIFA U-17 World Cup in China.
Heavily tipped for the trophy especially after defeating Brazil 4-3 in the semi-final, Germany were shocked by a 10-man Golden Eaglets side.
Goals from Jonathan Akpoborie and Victor Igbinoba gave Nigeria the first of their five FIFA U-17 World Cup titles.
GERMANY 1-0 NIGERIA (Int'l Friendly: 1998, Cologne)
Prior to the kick-off of the France 1998 World Cup, the Super Eagles played Germany in an international friendly game in Cologne, Germany.
It was the first time both countries would clash at the senior level.
After holding their hosts for a long period in the game, the Super Eagles finally succumbed following an Andreas Mueller strike to end the game 1-0.
NIGERIA 2-0 GERMANY (Group Stage: 1999 U-20 World Cup)
The FIFA U-20 World Cup hosted by Nigeria saw the Flying Eagles drawn alongside Costa Rica, Paraguay and Germany.
After a disappointing 1-1 draw in the opening game of the competion, the Flying Eagles beat Germany 2-0 in their second game.
On target for the Flying Eagles were Ganiyu Shittu and Hashimu Garba.
The Flying Eagles got to the quarter-finals but lost 3-1 to a Seydou Keita-led Mali side.
NIGERIA 3-1 GERMANY (Semi-Final: 2007 U-17 World Cup)
The Golden Eaglets met Germany in the semi-finals of the 2007 U-17 FIFA World Cup held in South Korea.
Chrisantus Macauley and Yakubu Alfa gave Nigeria a 2-0 lead before Toni Kroos reduced the deficit before half-time.
But in the 94th minute, Kabiru Akinsola scored to end the game 3-1 in favour of Nigeria and earn a place in the final.
In the final against Spain, the Eaglets won 3-0 on penalties after a goalless 120 minutes.
GERMANY 3-2 NIGERIA (2nd Round: 2009 U-20 World Cup)
At the 2009 FIFA U-20 World Cup in Egypt, the Flying Eagles and Germany met in the second round.
Tied at 2-2 and heading into extra-time, 10-man Germany went on to score the winning goal through Bjorn Kopplin to send his side into the quarter-finals.
Daniel Uchechi and Rabiu Ibrahim were the scorers for the Flying Eagles, then coached by current U-23s handler Samson Siasia.
NIGERIA 3-3 GERMANY (Group Stage: 2009 U-17 World Cup)
In the opening game of the FIFA U-17 World Cup in Nigeria, Germany raced to a 3-0 lead through Lennart Thy, Shkodran Mustafi and Mario Gotze against the Golden Eaglets.
But in the second half, a German player was sent off as the Eaglets fought back to end the encounter 3-3 with the trio of Stanley Okoro, Kenneth Omeruo and Edafe Egbedi all scoring for the Eaglets.
The Eaglets made it to the final but surprisingly lost 1-0 to Switzerland.

The last encounter between Nigeria and Germany at any level was in the round of 16 at the 2015 FIFA U-20 World Cup in New Zealand.
The Germans were totally dominant and went on to win the game 1-0.
