Nigeria and Senegal have met sixteen times, including competitive games and friendlies. Nigeria won seven, Senegal won four, while five matches ended in stalemates.
SENEGAL 5-1 NIGERIA (French Colonial Tournament: 1963)
Nigeria's first ever meeting against Senegal was in the French Colonial Tournament which took place in Dakar in 1963.
It was the Senegalese who triumphed as they thrashed their Nigerian counterparts 5-1.
SENEGAL 1-0 NIGERIA (International Friendly: 1975)
Both teams didn't meet again until 1975 in an international friendly game in Dakar.
Just like in 1963, Senegal once again got the better of Nigeria as they won 1-0.
SENEGAL 3-1 NIGERIA (AFCON 1978 Qualifier, First Leg, Second Round: 1977)
In 1977, Nigeria and Senegal met for the first time in a competitive game in the first leg, second round qualifiers in Dakar for the 1978 Africa Cup of Nations in Ghana.
Senegal continued their dominance over Nigeria with a 3-1 first leg win.
NIGERIA 3-0 SENEGAL (AFCON 1978 Qualifier, Second Leg, Second Round: 1977)
In the second leg in Lagos, Nigeria needed to beat Senegal by two goals to qualify for the 1978 AFCON.
Nigeria eventually secured their first ever win against Senegal with a convincing 3-0 win to progress 4-3 on aggregate.
NIGERIA 0-0 SENEGAL (International Friendly: 1980)
Prior to the start of the 1980 AFCON hosted by Nigeria, the Nigerian team faced Senegal in a warm-up game in Lagos.
After 90 minutes, Nigeria were held to a 0-0 draw by the Senegalese.
NIGERIA 1-0 SENEGAL (CEDEAO CUP: 1983)
After their last meeting in a friendly match in 1980 which ended 0-0, Nigeria and Senegal clashed in the CEDEAO Cup in 1983.
The CEDEAO Cup was an international men's football tournament for nations in the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS).
Nigeria hosted the first leg and won 1-0, thereby securing their second ever victory against Senegal.
SENEGAL 0-1 NIGERIA (CEDEAO CUP: 1983)
In the reverse fixture of the CEDEAO Cup in Dakar, Nigeria clinched their first ever away win against Senegal courtesy of a 1-0 win.
Nigeria progressed into the next stage where they surprisingly lost 5-2 to Togo.
NIGERIA 1-1 SENEGAL (CEDEAO CUP: 1990)
Nigeria and Senegal never crossed path again until 1990 when they met once again in the CEDEAO Cup in Nigeria.
Both teams cancelled each other out as they settled for a 1-1 scoreline.
SENEGAL 1-2 NIGERIA (AFCON 1992: Group Stage)
For the first time ever, Nigeria and Senegal met in the Africa Cup of Nations hosted by Senegal in 1992.
It was the opening game of the tournament which Nigeria won 2-1 thanks to goals from Samson Siasia and the late Stephen Keshi.
Senegal's goal was scored by the late Jules Bocande.
SENEGAL 1-1 NIGERIA (AFCON 2000 Qualifier, Group Stage; 1999)
Nigeria were drawn with Burundi, Burkina Faso and Senegal in one of the groups of AFCON 2000 which was initially award to Zimbabwe.
Prior to taking away the hosting of the AFCON 2000 from Zimbabwe and giving it to Nigeria and Ghana to co-host, Nigeria had played 1-1 against Senegal in Dakar – their third game in the qualifiers.
NIGERIA 0-0 SENEGAL (International Friendly: 1999)
Both Nigeria and Senegal met in a friendly game after they earlier clashed in the AFCON 2000 qualifiers.
And just like in the qualifiers which ended in stalemate, the friendly game ended 0-0.
NIGERIA 2-1 SENEGAL (AFCON 2000: Quarter-Final)
Nigeria and Senegal faced each other in the quarter-finals of the AFCON 2000, the Super Eagles were clearly an obvious favourites. But it wasn't an easy pie of a game for the AFCON co-hosts.
But Senegal took a shock first half lead through Kalilou Fadiga who opened scoring in the seventh minute.
Julius Aghahowa was the hero for Nigeria as he equalised with five minutes left in the game and scored an extra-time winner (92') to give Nigeria a 2-1 win.
SENEGAL 2-1 NIGERIA (AFCON 2002: Semi-Final)
Senegal got their pound of flesh over Nigeria when they clashed in the semi-final of the AFCON 2002 in Mali as they won 2-1 after extra-time.
Despite losing a player via a red card in the first half, Senegal took the lead on 54 minutes through Papa Bouba Diop.
Just like in 2000, Aghahowa equalised for Nigeria in the 88th minute to send the game into extra-time.
Salif Diao made it 2-1 for Senegal in the 97th minute which they held on to and advanced into the final.
SENEGAL 2-2 NIGERIA (Joola Disaster Charity match: 2002)
Following the Joola disaster which occured in Senegal in 2002, the Teranga Lions parading the likes of El-Hadji Diouf, Papa Bouba Diop, Omar Daf, Alliou Cisse, Tony Silva and Henry Camara, hosted a mainly home-based Nigeria side in a charity match.
Nigeria stunned the Senegalese by going 2-0 up, but the hosts fought back to end the game 2-2.
NIGERIA 2-1 SENEGAL (AFCON 2006: Group Stage)
Nigeria were drawn with Senegal in the Group C that also had Ghana and Zimbabwe at the 2006 AFCON in Egypt.
After beating Ghana and Zimbabwe, 1-0 and 2-0 respectively, Nigeria faced Senegal in their final group game.
Senegal went in front through Souleyman Camara before a brace from Obafemi Martins sealed a 2-1 comeback win for Nigeria.
NIGERIA 1-0 SENEGAL (AFCON 2006: Third Place)
For the second time at the 2006 AFCON, Nigeria met Senegal, this time in the third place match.
Just like in the group stage, Nigeria once again emerged victorious following Garba Lawal's goal which gave the Super Eagles a 1-0 win to claim the bronze.
