Japan's national U-23 coach Teguramori Makoto has named Dutch-based star Sai Van Wermeskerken in his 23-man squad to face Ghana in Wednesday's international friendly at Best Amenity Stadium in Tosu, Completesortsnigeria.com can report.
Japan are one of Nigeria's group opponents at the Rio 2016 Olympics men's football event. The other teams in their group are Colombia and Sweden.
Japan however will be without the injured quartet of Mitsumaru Hiromu, Yamanaka Ryosuke, Maeda Naoki and Toyokawa Yuta for the charity match in support of Kumamoto prefecture following last month’s deadly earthquakes, Kyodonews reports.
Teguramori is hoping to use the encounter to rekindle excitement to the to the people in the devastated area.
"On Wednesday 11 May, we have a match to play against Ghana in Tosu," Tegumari said.
"Hopefully we can show courage and the determination to win and send energy to the affected areas.
"We as a national team will play in order to provide new rebuilding energy to the region that has lost so much. We want to play well enough to give courage and excitement to the people in the devastated area."
