Nigeria Vs Egypt: CAF Rejects March 26 NFF Request

By Richard Jideaka, Abuja:

Confederation of African Football, CAF, has turned down request for a shift in the date for the 2017 Africa Cup of Nations first leg qualifier between the Super Eagles of Nigeria and the Pharaohs of Egypt.

The Nigeria Football Federation, NFF had written to CAF requesting that the match scheduled for Kaduna be played on March 26 instead of the earlier date of March 23 at the same venue while the return leg in Egypt be played on March 29.

But CAF in its response rejected the NFF request on the basis that the March 26 the Nigerian federation are requesting will not be conducive for the two countries to travel and rest before the second leg.

Consequently, CAF has directed the NFF to refer back to the earlier date or pick another date earlier than March 26.

Completesportnigeria.com gathered that the NFF are expected to pick a new date before the end of the week.

NFF Head of competition department, Bola Oyeyode when asked for confirmation stated that CAF turned down the proposed date because of closeness in the dates for the two legged game.

  1. I was waiting for CAF reply to our own NFF before I Comment. Who are those in NFF making such wicked and outrageous request. It is foolishness indeed. Rightly too, CAF have rejected it and suggested a reasonable request. I bet you, in CAF office, they must have abused and made fun of Nigeria because of NFF. CAF office is in Egypt. The Egyptian FA may as well request that the return leg be played on the 27th, 5:30am Nigeria time so that the Egyptians will only need to walkover Nigeria with their 2nd 11 as Nigeria will not be able to make it. Do we need to resort to wicked deeds before we win? Nigeria should go and play 23rd and 29th jare. NFG my yanch. Which kind people be this sef.

The Nff has a right to request for a date switch to get kaduna stadium ready for the contest.Asking for a switch does not constitute evil.Other africa countries have done similar thing in the past.
