Nigerian Boxers Confident Ahead Of Olympic Qualifiers

Silver medallist at the 2015 All Africa Games in Congo Brazaville Efetobor Apochi has stated that he and his colleagues are ready to storm Cameroon and do Nigeria proud at the Africa Boxing Championship in Yaounde, Cameroon.

The Africa Boxing Championship, which begins from Friday, 11 March to Saturday, 19 March, serves as the qualifiers for this year’s Olympic Games in Rio.

Heavyweight Apochi told Completesportsnigeria.com that despite the lack of adequate support, the boxers will still give their all.

“Everything is going well, we are really preparing for the qualifiers. I believe we are 100 per cent ready,” Apochi said.

“Though we are not getting the support we really need but as we know, in a country like Nigeria, we just have to be ready to give your support or no support.

“But I’ve got support from my family and friends which I’m okay with and I promise to make them proud.”

He also stated if he qualifies for the Olympics, he hopes to win a medal for Nigeria.

“My target is hopefully I will be part of the boxers that will be in Brazil and also win a medal for Nigeria.”
