NSC, AFN Seek Okagbare U-Turn For AAG

By Sab Osuji In Brazzaville:

Team Nigeria sprint star, Blessing Okagbare, could still be available for the on-going All Africa Games here in Congo Brazzaville.

Completesportsnigeria.com has been informed that there is intensive lobbying by top officials on the National Sports Commission for Okagbare to make a U-turn and change her decision to stay away from the 11th All Africa Games.

Okagbare had hinged her decision to stay away from the games on injury, but the Athletic Federation of Nigeria technical official reasons otherwise.

“How can she say she is injured when she ran at a meet recently and finished second?” the AFN official queried.

“Anyway, the NSC Director-General is talking to her and other athletes to change their minds.

“That was the reason why Al-Hassan Yakmut, NSC Director General flew out of Congo on Monday to Nigeria.

“Blessing’s absence will cut short the number of gold medals we hope to win in athletics.

“We expect gold from her in 100m, 200m and 4×400m. So with her absence, that means we will miss those three gold medals.”

Athletics events get underway at the on-going All Africa Games in Congo Brazzaville on Saturday with Nigerian athletes expected to hit town on Thursday.
