Former Golden Eaglets midfielder Kelechi Nwakali wants to wear the No.25 shirt at Arsenal when he completes his move in the coming weeks, The Mirror has reported.
Nwakali who was named the Most Valuable Player at the 2015 FIFA U-17 World Cup in Chile is hoping to emulate Nigerian compatriot and personal hero Nwankwo Kanu who also wore the jersey number at the club.
According to The Mirror, Nwakali sees the move to as a great motivation for him when he finally seals his move to the Emirates stadium.
But his wishes may not be granted as the No.25 shirt is already taken by Carl Jenkinson who is on a season loan at West Ham.
Arsene Wenger on Friday confirmed the imminent arrival of the Nigerian youngster.
“We identified Nwakali as the player of the tournament (at the Under-17 World Cup). He is a top player and we’ll try to get it over the line,” the Arsenal manager said.
“Talks are progressing well. It should be done this month.
“There are work permit issues, medical issues but it is progressing well.”
