By Adeboye Amosu: Abia Warriors centre-back Austin Obaroakpo has warned his colleagues to be at their best against Rangers in Friday's Oriental derby at the Nnamdi Azikwe Stadium or be dragged into the relegation fight, reports Completesportsnigeria.com.
Kennedy Boboye's men who started the season on a high and were the last team to taste defeat in the Nigeria Professional Football League this season have experienced a dip in form in recent weeks.
They lost 1-0 at home against Plateau United last weekend and were embarrassed 5-1 by Kano Pillars in their previous game.
Another defeat against title-chasing Rangers would see the Umuahia- based side who sit in the 13th position sink deeper in the table and the defender has issued a rallying call to his teammates to go for a win in the game.
"The results of our recent games have been disppointing, but we have the chance to put things right against Rangers on Friday,"
Obaroakpo, a member of the home-based Super Eagles squad to the African Nations Championship in Rwanda, told Completesportsnigeria.com.
"The key thing is that we must not lose this game as a result of the bad run we have had recently.
"It's going to be tough for us as Rangers are looking to win the title after so many years, but I believe if we give our best we can shock them."
