Stoke City’s Nigerian striker Osaze Odemwingie has hailed Jack Butland for his penalty heroics in the Potters’ 5-4 win over stuttering Chelsea in Tuesday’s Capital One Cup clash at the Britannia stadium.
Odemwingie, who came on for goalscorer Jonathan Walters in stoppage time of the encounter as Loic Remy struck an injury time equaliser to force extra time, wrote via his Twitter handle to applaud the England goalie for his efforts in the encounter.
Butland made four top class saves in the match. First he was called into action early in the first half to keep out a near-post effort from Costa and a shot from Oscar.
He also pulled off a wonderful save, stopping Bertrand Traore’s rising shot and Kennedy’s flick from going in all in the second half.
The England goalkeeper then proved the hero of the night as he made the decisive intervention in the shootout to deny Hazard and send Stoke through to the quarter-finals of the competition at the expense of Jose Mourinho and his struggling cup holders.
“Great effort from the team. JB is the man! Very happy for all of us Potters,” Odemwingie wrote via his Twitter handle.Watch The Premier League Live!! with EXPRESSVPN the #1 Trusted Name in VPN
