Hapoel Beer Sheva midfielder John Ogu has made a shock revelation that he almost dumped football to study a management course in Nigeria.
Ogu who wedded his heartrob in Nnewi on Wednesday told Completesportsnigeria.com that he got an invite for trials at a Slovenian club NK Drava two days before his entry exams at the Olabisi Onabanjo University in Ago Iwoye, Ogun State in 2008.
And that knocked him into having second thoughts about football.
"Football has brought me so many good things in life and thank God I didn't quit early," Ogu recounted.
"Where I started football at the grassroot level was becoming frustrating for me because at that time there were no signs I was going to make it to Europe.
"I slept over absconding from camp to write an exam to study Industrial Relations and Personal Management at OOU, but luckily for me Marshal Mbre pulled the. Slovenia deal up which saw my journey to Europe begin."
Ogu also admitted he was luckiest man on earth to have married his wife Adaolisa.
'She's been everything to me since I met her," Ogu spoke of his wife who is a graduate of a Canadian University.
Ogu who has stints with UD Almeria, Academica and Unia de Lieria in Portugal is also confident the Red Camels can wrestle the title away from three time winners Maccabi Tel Aviv who trail dem with three points after their 5-0 hammering of Ironi Kiryat Shnmona.
"We have a good chance this season and I believe this season we will end up being champions because this what I crave ," Ogu who has scored one goal in 15 games said.
