Nigerians John Ogu and Anthony Nwakaeme helped Hapoel Be’er Sheva end their a 40-year wait to win the Israeli Premier League title for a third time on Saturday after a 3-1 home victory over Bnei Sakhnin on the final day of the campaign, Completesportsnigeria.com reports.
Firas Mugrabi opened scoring for Bnei Sakhnin in the sixth minute but Maor Bar Buzaglo restored parity for the Be’er Sheva ten minutes later.
Maor Melikson gave Ogu’s side a 2-1 lead in the 40th minute before Ben Sahar wrapped up the win for the new champions who last won back-to-back titles in 1975 and 1976.
Saturday’s win ended Maccabi Tel Aviv’s grip on the trophy for the past three seasons. Be’er Sheva will contest the preliminary rounds of next season’s Champions League.
In Russia, Nigeria winger Ahmed Musa’s CSKA Moscow have won the Russian Premier League title after defeating Rubin Kazan 1-0 away on the last day of the season on Saturday for their 13th league title.
Alan Dzagoev scored the winner in the 19th minute to seal the title for the CSKA Moscow.
They finished top of the table on 65 points, pipping Rostov who finished second on 63 points, after they beat Terek Grozny 2-0 away. Meanwhile, Musa ended the season with 13 goals in 30 league appearances.
Super Eagles forward, Sylvester Igboun was on target for his Russian side FC Ufa as they escaped relegation with a 3-1 win against Spartak Moscow on Saturday.
Ivan Paurevic put them ahead in the first minute, while Lorenzo Melgarejo restored parity for Spartak on nine minutes.
Igboun converted a penalty in the 13th minute to restore Ufa’s 2-1 lead, his fourth goal of the campaign. Paurevic grabbed his second of the game 22 minutes from time.
The win ensures Ufa narrowly escaped the drop, finishing just a point above Anzhi Makahckala.
In Romania, the duo of Michael Odibe and Christian Obodo helped Concordia Chiajna to a 2-1 win over CFR Cluj on Saturday.
In Slovenia, Blessing Eleke scored his fourth goal in the colours of Olimpija Ljubljana who spanked NK Krka 3-0 to celebrate the title in front of their home fans on Saturday.
