Oliseh: I Won’t Sell Eagles Players

By Johnny Edward:

Super Eagles coach Sunday Oliseh has unequivocally stated that he is not in the job to sell players abroad but to succeed as coach of Nigeria.

The former Juventus and Borussia Dortmund star released a list of 18 overseas-based players on Monday for the AFCON qualifier against Tanzania, handing debut call-ups to the trio of Carl Ikeme from Wolverhampton Wanderers, Izunna Ugochukwu and Sylvester Igboun.

Oliseh told the media in Lagos on Monday that his utmost aim is to build a formidable team that can compete well with the rest of the world.

“We don’t have a base for the team yet because for the past one year 62 players have featured for the Eagles,” he said.

“I won’t sell players. Don’t forget that I was once a player and as players they have friends who they get along with.

“So I know that if I do well, the NFF President can take me to the Lagos State Governor who could reward me for efforts made.

“I have my work cut out here and like my mother told me if the job was easy I wouldn’t have been contacted.”

Oliseh however pleaded for the co-operation as he gets set to lead the team against Tanzania next month.

“I can’t succeed if we are antagonists of each other,” he added.

He revealed that his new team will not play like the ‘Class of 94’ which he starred in.

“If we play like we did in 1994, we’d lose 4-0, 5-0. Why? Because we relied on more individual talent.

“We will build a team to play with the individual talent and our physical strength which the Europeans don’t have.”
