—Gives Red Card To Mba, Akpan, Aluko, Azeez, Others
By Johnny Edward:
The days of the likes of Sunday Mba, Sone Aluko, Ramon Azeez and Hope Akpan may be numbered in the Super Eagles if words of the new coach Sunday Oliseh are to be believed.
Oliseh who becomes the fifth ex-Super Eagles player to coach the team in five years revealed in his first media briefing that no Nigerian player featuring in the lower division in Europe will be considered for the senior national team.
“No player outside of first division in Nigeria or elsewhere will play for Super Eagles,” Oliseh said on Wednesday.
“Gone are the days when we had individual players who can win games on their own. But we have potential.”
Mba recently joined second tier side Yeni Malatyaspor in Turkey while Sone Aluko was relegated to the Championship in England with Hull City.
Also Ramon Azeez’s Almeria failed to avoid the drop in the La Liga in Spain while Reading’s Hope Akpan may have played his last game for the Super Eagles against Uganda.
But that could change if they all make a switch to the elite divisions in Europe before the transfer window closes in August 31.
