Super Eagles head coach, Sunday Oliseh, says winning the African Nations Championship is not a big priority, but rather discovering players that will help his main squad in future, reports Completesportsnigeria.com.
CHAN is reserved for domestic players plying their trade in their country's domestic leagues.
Nigeria failed to qualify for the first two editions of the competition, but won bronze at the last edition in South Africa.
Oliseh has however downplayed the importance of claiming the title, insisting that his focus is to keep unearthing fresh talents for the main Super Eagles squad.
"It will be a nice thing to win the trophy, but for us it's not a a do or die thing," he said during his interaction with the media ahead of the Monday's Group C fixture against next-door neighbours Niger.
"So far, we have been able to discover four players from the squad that helped us during our last World Cup qualifying game.
"We hope to be able to discover more here as that will be good for the future of the national team.
"In Nigeria, the fans expect us to win all the time even though if the game is against Abia Warriors (a club in the Glo Premier League), but it is important to think about the future too."
