By James Agberebi:

Despite his inability to lead Middlesbrough back to the English Premier League, Super Eagles defender Kenneth Omeruo has backed manager Aitor Karanka as the one that will still lead the club to gain promotion to the elite division, while also thanking the club's fans for their support..

Middlesbrough lost 2-0 to Norwich in Monday's final Championship play-off which was decided inside Wembley Stadium.
First half goals from Cameron Jerome and Nathan Redmond proved the deciders for Norwich who were relegated in the 2013/2014 season.

Reacting after the loss, Omeruo who was not listed for the play-off final, thanked his team-mates and fans for their support during his trying times at the club.

He wrote on his instagram page: "It's sad that our targets for this season weren't achieved. But for me personally, I learnt a lot by being here and it has been an experience I will forever cherish.

"The love you guys showed me is overwhelming. Even when I was getting frustrated, you guys were behind me and supporting me. And this I will never forget no matter where I am next season.

"I want to thank the manager and the club for believing in me. And I have no doubt the manager will take this team to the Premier League. I am forever grateful to the boys for being such a wonderful team. I will be cheering for you guys or with you guys. #loveFans."
