–Scores in Liverpool Ladies’ win
Super Falcons striker Asisat Oshoala has been nominated by the BBC World Service for the inaugural BBC Women’s Footballer of the Year award.
According to liverpoolfc.com, Oshoala who moved to England from Port-Harcourt based Rivers Angels, was nominated along with Veronica Boquete (Spain and FFC Frankfurt), Nadine Kessler (Germany and VFL Wolfsburg), Kim Little (Scotland and Seattle Reign FC) and Marta (Brazil and FC Rosengard).
The shortlist was selected by a panel of experts, including administrators, journalists, coaches and former players.
Reflecting on her nomination, Oshoala said: “I worked hard last year but I am surprised to be nominated and I feel very appreciated.
“This award is a very good thing for women’s football. It can really help us by encouraging other countries to support their ladies more and treat them the same way they treat the men.
“A lot of people tried to discourage me, but I never let that bother me – I did what I wanted to do.”
Meanwhile, Oshoala was on target for Liverpool Ladies on Sunday in their 2-1 win against Man City Ladies.
The former Falconets forward opened the scoring for the Reds before Line Smorsgard.
She is expected to represent Nigeria at this year’s FIFA Women’s World Cup taking place in Canada.Jiji.ng the cheapest online shopping in Nigeria
