Nigeria’s Funke Oshonaike on Tuesday, qualified for the semi-final of the women’s singles at the 2015 ITTF Africa Senior in Yaoundé, Cameroon.
Oshonaike defeated Algeria’s Islem Laid 3-0 and repeated same feat against Cameroon’s Beatrice Enjema before getting a walk-over against Congo Brazzaville’s Han Xing to top the group.
For leading the group, Oshonaike got a bye to the semi-finals along with Egypt’s Dina Meshref.
Oshonaike will battle the winner between Egypt’s Nadeen El-Dawlatly and Cameroon’s Sarah Hanffou in Thursday’s semi-final, while Egypt’s Meshref will take on the winner between Algeria’s Islem Laid and Lynda Loghraibi.
Speaking ahead of the semi-final, Oshonaike said she was ready to take on any opponent.
“I am happy that I got a good draw and I hope I can be in my best form so that I can make it to the final,” she said.
In the final, anything can happen and I look forward to what is going to happen.”
Meanwhile, in the men’s singles, Aruna Quadri and Kazeem Makanjuola are through to the quarterfinal where they are expected to tackle Egypt’s El-Sayed Lashin and Algeria’s Idir Khourta for places in the semifinal.
