Veteran Nigerian women’s table tennis player, Funke Oshonaike, has set her sights on winning a gold medal at the 11th All Africa Games in Brazzaville, Congo.
In a chat with completesportsnigeria.com, Oshonaike said: “I have been going to the All Africa Games since 1991 and I have been winning medals.
“I remember the one held in Nigeria in 2003, I won four gold medals. Though I am not getting any younger, there are other players coming up fast. But I pray I win a gold medal even if it’s just one I don’t mind.”
Speaking further, Oshonaike played down the threat from the likes of Egypt, Congo and Algeria at the Games.
“One of the reasons I went to the African Championship in Cameroon, was to go and see the form of the Egyptians, The Congolese, the Algerians and they’ve really improved,” she told completesportsnigeria.com.
“Like for instance, Congo have another Chinese which makes it two in their team. I played against one of the Chinese, and lost 3-2. But that will not be a problem for us at the Games because I trust the players that will be representing Nigeria.”
