Nigeria Football Federation President Amaju Pinnick has likened new Super Eagles coach Sunday Oliseh to one of Europe’s most successful coaches, Pep Guardiola.
Oliseh signed a three-year contract on Wednesday to succeed Stephen Keshi as Nigeria coach.
During the presentation of the former Nigeria captain in Abuja, Pinnick mentioned the Bayern Munich manager as inspiration for the Oliseh appointment.
“Today is another historic day in the history of Nigeria football,” Pinnick said at the press conference. “Today we have been able to present the Pep Guardiola of Africa.
“I can assure you that we are going to have one of the best coaches Nigeria ever had.
“As a member of the FIFA technical study group, he is vastly travelled and trained.”
Like Oliseh, Guardiila was also not very experienced when he was named Barcelona manager in 2008, but he won the La Liga and UEFA Champions League titles in his first season and has remained successful ever since.
Oliseh promised to give his best and help transform the Super Eagles.
He said: “I’m coming in to do my best and give if possible 150% all the time. The state we are now in Nigeria I think we are all not happy with.”
