Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp has hailed his players for responding to their 2-0 Premier League loss to West Ham on Saturday, by beating Stoke City in the first leg semi-final of the Capital One Cup.
A 37th minute goal by Jordon Ibe, gave the Reds 1-0 vital 1-0 away win ahead of the reverse fixture coming up January 26 at Anfield.
In his post-match comments, Klopp stated that the outcome of the game is not yet decided.
“At 1-0 nothing is decided in a tie like this.”
“I was really angry a few days ago but now I’m proud.”
“I’m proud as it was a perfect reaction from the last game (against West Ham).”
The former Dortmund manager, however, lamented the double injury blow to Philippe Coutinho and Dejan Lovren.
“You saw it was a special game. A good game, lively, aggressive. Only 1-0 but of course we have two bad injuries and that’s why I’m not only lucky tonight.
“We now have three injured centre-halves and the only fit one (Kolo Toure) got a cramp in the last minute.
“It’s a big shadow over the game for us, the injuries. I don’t know how serious and we have to wait for this.”
He added that he may have to make some signings in the January transfer window.
“In this situation with no centre-backs fit I would say [transfers] is something we could look at.”
