Pulis: Ideye Needs a Goal

West Brom manager Tony Pulis admits the only thing missing from Brown Ideye’s game is goal scoring after the forward again proved fruitless against Hull City on Saturday.

The Nigeria international became the Baggies’ record signing after joining from Dynamo Kiev for £10m at the start of the season, but is yet to repay that figure after managing just two goals thus far.

Brown had plenty of chances to add to that tally against the Tigers this weekend, but was again lacking the killer instinct in front of goal as Saido Berahino instead earned Albion the points as they secured a 1-0 win.

Speaking after the game, Pulis said: “He (Ideye) needs a break, and that break is sticking the ball in the back of the net. He looked sharp around the pitch, he caused the two centre-halves problems, he got up the sides three or four times today, but the kid needs a goal.”

A notable miss from the African against Hull saw him fluff his shot when one-on-one with goalkeeper Alan Mc Gregory, and Pulis admits those are the kind of chances a player of Ideye’s calibre should be burying.

“You need to take those chances,” Pulis said. “When you get opportunities like that you have to take them. But Brown worked hard today, he really worked the line well and Berahino played well with him.”
