Rangers’ quest to end their 31-year trophy drought will be further tested when they confront Kwara United in a round of 16 Federation Cup tie in Abuja on Thursday.
The Flying Antelopes last won a domestic trophy in 1984 and with heavyweights like Enyimba, Sunshine Stars, Kano Pillars, Warri Wolves and 3SC already out of the competition, they are now among the favourites to lift the Cup.
The Coal City side head into the game in a not too convincing mood following last weekend’s 2-1 home loss to Enyimba.
On Wednesday, another Oriental side, IfeanyiUbah, will confront Taraba United also at the Area 3 playing ground in Abuja.
IfeanyiUbah sent packing fellow Glo Premier League side, Bayelsa United, in the round of 32, while Taraba United edged out non-league Papilo FC, run by Nwankwo Kanu.
Nasarawa United and Abia Warriors, another two top division side, will do battle at the Oshogbo Township Stadium.
Giant killers Remo Stars, who knocked out holders Enyimba in the previous round, will hope to continue their impressive run when they square up to Lobi Stars at the Rojenny Stadium, Oba.
Heartland will tackle minnows BJ Foundation in Makurdi, while Prime FC will slug it out with Akwa United at the Oleh Stadium in Delta State.
El-Kanemi Warriors will be wary of threat posed by Plateau United, conquerors of both Shooting Stars and Kano Pillars.
The clash between Tornadoes Feeders and Dolphins slated for Ado Ekiti completes the line-up of games for the round.
