Claudio Ranieri has attributed Leicester City’s 4-1 defeat against Manchester United to costly defensive mistakes.
Coming into the game on the back of two straight defeats, United romped to a 4-0 first half lead with goals from Chris Smalling, Juan Mata, Marcus Rashford and Paul Pogba while Demarai Gray got Leicester’s only goal.
Reacting to the loss, Ranieri stated that he was stunned with his team’s performance.
“Today we made some mistakes.. Ok, they’re a big side, but for the third goal we should be attentive,” the Italian said.
“Strange because we did well in the first 20 minutes. We must do better from set pieces. We lost our calm.
“At half time the game was gone, but it was important to go out and give our best, fight together and fight for our fans.”
Ranieri then gave his reason why he had to remove the duo of Jamie Vardy and Riyad Mahrez.
“At half time the game was gone. I took off Vardy and Mahrez to preserve them for Tuesday. I want them to be strong versus Porto.”
