Ranieri: Leicester Focusing On Newcastle Game, Not EPL Points

Leicester City manager Claudio Ranieri on Thursday admits that the Foxes are beginning to recognise the positive results of their impressive season but all attention is on Monday night's game against Newcastle United.

The Premier League leaders have surprised many observers and the Italian in his press conference remained calm while fielding questions from the media.

“Now we aren’t thinking about how many points, we’re thinking about Newcastle," says Foxes boss Ranieri.

“The league this year is crazy. We are fighting because it’s a crazy league and anything could happen. I think it will be another difficult match. They have good players, with fantastic fans.”

Leicester City are five points clear at the top of the Premier League with only nine league matches to go.

So does the former AS Monaco coach now consider his team title favourites then? Ranieri was coy in his response.

"We are the same, for me the favourites are the others, of course," says the Italian. "We have to fight then just at the end of the season we can say 'we have achieved this'."

Ranieri was not concerned that he is going to lose Riyad Mahrez to Barcelona after his outstanding season.

"It is only speculation," Ranieri said of the transfer speculation surrounding the Algerian.

Monday night's game starts at 9pm Nigerian time.
