Real Madrid have been thrown out of the Copa del Rey after fielding an ineligible player in the clash with Cadiz on Wednesday night, reports Spanish paper, Sport.
Los Blancos travelled to Cadiz on Wednesday night and ran out comfortable 3-1 winners, after two goals from Isco and one from winger Cheryshev.
However, reports began to emerge during the game that Cheryshev was actually meant to sit out the game after receiving three yellow cards in the competition last season on loan at Villarreal.
Cadiz filed a formal complaint after alleging that Cheryshev should have been suspended.
That prompted Real Madrid president Florentino Perez to call a press conference, where he insisted nor him or the 24-year-old were notified of the problem, as per the aforementioned source.
However, the authorities have shockingly thrown the 2014 winners out of the prestigious competition.
