Real Madrid’s 7 Deadly Sins

Real Madrid’s 7 Deadly Sins

Readers of Marca,Spain's number sports paper have analysed the reasons underlying Real Madrid's failed season. They are unanimous about the team's seven deadly sins. More than 50,000 individuals participated.

1/ Lack of squad rotation

The players have arrived at the end of the season exhausted. The fans think that Ancelotti has failed in his distribution of playing time.

2/ The absence of Modric and other injuries

The Croat's injury was decisive at a key moment in the season. He's not the only one to have required medical attention, with James, Benzema, Bale and Ramos all having their problems, too.

3/ Cristiano Ronaldo failing to fire on all cylinders

It's difficult to blame someone that has scored over 50 goals during the season, but his performances over April and May have fallen away from the incredibly high levels he set earlier in the season.

4/ Not daring to trust the backup.

Illarra, Lucas Silva, Chicharito, Khedira, Coentrao, Jesé… The subs have hardly played, making this a very long campaign for the regular starters.

5/ Bale, off the boil.

The Welshman is a central figure for the Italian manager, but his performances this season have been far from last season's contribution. Whenever Bale is fit he gets a start, although his performances on the pitch have hardly shown why he's so trusted.

6/ Failing against big teams

Real Madrid have repeatedly produced poor results against big teams this season. Juventus are just the latest in a long line. Prior to this they only managed to beat Barcelona once and Atlético once.

7/ Ancelotti hasn't dealt with problems

The manager's management style has been questioned by our readers. The team have fallen from grace in 2015 and the manager has failed pinpoint and resolve whatever the problem is.
