By James Agberebi:
A total of 24 boxers have been shortlisted for camping ahead of the 2016 Rio Olympic Games.
This was disclosed to Completesportsnigeria.com by the head coach of the Nigeria national boxing team, Tony Konyegwachi.
"I have submitted the names of boxers to the secretary of the NBF ahead of camping for the Olympic Games. A total of 24 boxers, which consist of 15 men and nine women, are expected to be in the camp which will be in Lagos.
"And we have included three foreign boxers who will join us from their base," Konyegwachi told Completesportsnigeria.com.
He also stated that he hopes Nigeria will take part at this year's Women's World Boxing Championship in Azerbaijan, which has been shifted from February to May.
"The women's world boxing tournament in Azerbaijan has been moved to May. I hope we take part because that will be the last qualifying series for women for the Olympics. But before then, we have to go to Cameroon for the African Boxing Championship which is billed for March and we will be in camp soon," Konyegwachi added.
