Rivers United head coach, Stanley Eguma, believes his side can beat Nigeria Professional Football League champions Enyimba in Sunday’s match day one fixture at the Yakubu Gowon Stadium, Port Harcourt, reports Completesportsnigeria.com.
Eguma however admitted it will be tough to come up against the Peoples Elephant who won a record seventh title last term.
“Enyimba is a big team. There are no two ways about it. They parade some of the best players in the country,” Eguma, who worked as assistant coach at Enyimba, told the Rivers United’s official website.
“We will not underrate nor fear them. They have had good times in recent past, both in the league and on the continent.”
Rivers United captain Austine Festus also told Completesportsnigeria.com that they are looking forward to opening their campaign in the new season on a winning note.
“Last season was very tough for us and we managed to escape the drop on the final day,” he said.
“This time around, we want to start on a good note and consolidate on it.
“Enyimba will be difficult to beat, but we are confident of securing maximum points against them.”
