Enyimba started the defence of their Nigeria Professional Football League title on a losing note by going down 1-0 against Rivers United in Port Harcourt on Sunday.
Fredrick Obomate converted a free kick in the 64th minute to give the hosts the win.
It was however a good start for former champions Kano Pillars who rallied from a goal down to beat Rangers at the Sani Abacha Stadium.
Chiamaka Madu put Rangers ahead in the 50th minute.
The Flying Antelopes looked to be coasting home to an important win before lanky forward, Gambo Mohammed, got the equalising goal 12 minutes from time.
New signing Prince Aggreh broke the hearts of the visitors by scoring the winner with virtually the last kick in the game.
In Owerri, Heartland and Warri Wolves played out a goalless draw. The home side dominated proceedings, but were repelled by their determined visitors who were keen not to go back to their base empty handed.
Sunshine Stars were held to a 1-1 draw by Akwa United at the Akure Township Stadium.
Okiki Afolabi opened scoring for the Owena Waves in the 12th minute, while in-form forward, Friday Ubong, restored parity for the Promise Keepers 12 minutes later.
Emmanuel Ajia scored the winner as Lobi Stars ended their poor at the Lekan Salami Stadium with a 1-0 win against Shooting Stars.
Newcomers MFM Football Club of Lagos started their campaign in the top flight on a bright note by picking a shock 2-1 away win against Nasarawa United in Makurdi.
Musa Newman put the Olukoya Boys ahead in the 18th minute, before Chukwuma Emmanuel increased the lead in the 33rd minute.
Ifeanyi Nweke pulled one back for the hosts 15 minutes from time, but the visitors held on for an important win.
At the Onikan Stadium, Lagos Ikorodu United were totally outplayed by Abia Warriors, but the league new boys fought hard to pick a point from the game. (The match action is pictured above)
Abia Warriors went ahead through Ndifreke Effiong in the first half, but Kennedy Boboye’s men were pegged back five minutes after the break through Agbane.
Wikki Tourists won the northern affair against El-Manemi Warriors, edging their hosts 1-0 at the Karkanda Stadium.
FC IfeanyiUbah also won on the road edging out Giwa FC 1-0 at the Rwang Pam Stadium.
