Liverpool’s hopes of finishing in the top four once again looked extremely bright until the 2-1 defeat against Manchester United before the international break.
The Reds have since fallen five points behind United with eight games left in the season. The form shown by United over the last five matches suggests that the Red Devils should seal the fourth spot with relative comfort.
However, Brendan Rodgers is refusing to give up on the top four and he says that it still remains possible. A heavyweight clash against Arsenal this weekend will go a long way into deciding their challenge.
Rodgers will be aware that United have the possibility of going eight points clear in the table if results go their way this weekend. Then, Liverpool would be left with only seven matches to catch up. Speaking to the club’s official site ahead of the away trip to face Arsenal, Rodgers said:
“I think people might look at it (the trip to Arsenal) as a must-win game. For me, it is a must-perform game, we want to perform well and we know that when we do that we’ve got every chance of winning, whether that’s at home or away.
“These final eight games are going to be exciting games and there is still every possibility for us to make the top four.
“The key for us in the first half against Manchester United was that we didn’t keep the ball well enough. We’ve talked about that, we’ve analysed that.”Watch The Premier League Live!! with EXPRESSVPN the #1 Trusted Name in VPN
