Cristiano Ronaldo has overhauled Real Madrid legend Alfredo Di Stefano with his 309th and 310th goals for the club thanks to his hat-trick at Espanyol on Sunday.
The Portuguese forward converted from the penalty spot against Juventus on Wednesday to make it 307 strikes for the Spanish side since his move from Manchester United in 2009, but was unable to add another as Madrid were eliminated by the Italians in the Champions League semi-finals.
But his treble at Cornella on Sunday have now seen him overtake the Argentine great, who passed away last year. Di Stefano netted his 308 goals in 396 matches between 1953 and 1964, while Ronaldo’s 310 have come in just 299 appearances for the club.
The legendary South American striker had been quoted by many media outlets as having scored 307 times for Real, but Madrid confirmed to Goal last week that his official tally for the club is indeed 308.
Cristiano, who signed a new contract at Madrid in September 2013, is now only 13 behind Madrid icon Raul, who netted 323 goals for the club in 741 appearances between 1994 and 2010.
Ronaldo now has 58 strikes in all competitions this term and leads the race for the Pichichi prize with 45, four more than Barca’s Lionel Messi.
Despite their 4-1 win, Madrid missed out on La Liga as Barca beat Atletico 1-0 to claim the title on SundayJiji.ng the cheapest online shopping in Nigeria.
