Cristiano Ronaldo returned to the Portugal side and scored four goals as the European champions thrashed nine-man Andorra 6-0 in Group B of the European qualifiers for the 2018 FIFA World Cup on Friday night.
It was Portugal’s first win of the qualifiers after they lost to Switzerland on matchday 1.
Ronaldo gave Portugal who were at home the lead just two minutes into the game before doubling the lead in the fourth minute.
Joao Cancelo made it 3-0 on 44 minutes before Ronaldo got on the scored sheet in the 47th minute to give Portugal a 4-0 lead.
In the 68th minute, Ronaldo grabbed his fourth goal to make it 5-0 to Portugal.
And in the 86th minute, Andre Silva completed the rout by scoring to end the game 6-0.
In Group A, France came from a goal down to beat Bulgaria 4-1 inside the Stade de France.
Mihail Aleksandrov gave Bulgaria the lead on six minutes from the penalty spot.
But goals from Kevin Gameiro (brace), Antoine Griezmann and Dimitri Payet, secured France’s first win of the qualifiers after drawing their first game.
In Group H, Belgium made it two wins out of two following their 4-0 home win against Bosnia-Herzegovina.
Belgium took the lead on 26 minutes after Emir Spahic scored an own goal.
Eden Hazard doubled Belgium’s lead on 29 minutes to make it 2-0 before Toby Alderweireld made it 3-0 in the 60th minute.
And with 11 minutes left, Romelu Lukaku got on the score sheet to give Belgium a 4-0 win.
In the biggest shock of the night, Faroe Islands defeated Latvia 2-0 away from home.
In other European qualifying results, Netherlands beat Belarus 4-1, Estonia defeated Gibraltar 4-0, Switzerland saw off Hungary 3-2, while Cyprus fell 2-0 to Greece.
