Former Super Eagles captain, Peter Rufai has expressed confidence in the Flying Eagles ability to win the FIFA U-20 World Cup which kicks off in New Zealand on May 30.
Rufai who is called 'Dodo Mayana' stressed that the Manu Garba boys have a lot of quality and mentality that stand them out as the team to beat in the championship.
"This is a team I believe will go places, I saw what they did at the African Youth Championship in Senegal, I saw what that striker (Bernard Bulbwa) did with the ball, his control-turn-and-strike goal in that final”, says the ex-international.
"All that showed a team destined for success and they won the cup. Now, the opposition is going to be tougher but given the technical input of Manu Garba and his assistants, I have no doubt that the Flying Eagles can shock every team in the championship.
"They have fighting spirit, they have tremendous character, skill and mentality which are qualities of a good team.
"So, I've no doubt that they will do well, I bet you this team will play in the final and once they do that, then they will return home with the trophy", emphasized Rufai who also stated that Brazil will not stand in the way of the Flying Eagles achieving their aim at the championship.
"There is one thing about Nigerian teams, they tend to step up their game once the opposition is tough and this cuts across all the levels of the national teams", the former Stationary Stores of Lagos goalkeeper added.
