African champions Cote d’Ivoire beat Mali 3-1 in their Russia 2018 World Cup qualifying fixture at the Stade Bouake on Saturday, reports Completesportsnigeria.com.
The all West African affair lived up to expectations with both sides playing their hearts out in a hugely entertaining encounter.
The Malians shocked their hosts when they took the lead through Sambou Yatabare in the 18th minute.
Jonathan Kodija equalised for the hosts in the 26th minute.
The Elephants took the lead for the first time in the game following an own goal by Salif Coulibaly in the 31st minute, while Yao Gervinho increased the lead three minutes later.
Earlier, Gabon and Morocco played a barren draw in the other Group C game.
In Group A, Democratic Republic of Congo whitewashed Libya 4-0 at the home.
Hull City forward Dieurmerci Mbokani scored a brace in the encounter with Jonathan Bolingi and Ndombe Mubele scoring the other goals for the side.
In another fixture, Burkina Faso missed two penalties as they held South Africa to a 1-1 draw in a Group D tie in Ouagadougou.
Dean Furman put Bafana Bafana ahead 10 minutes from time, while Barou Diawara equalised for the hosts in added time.
