Russia 2018: Ghana, CIV, Cameroon, Burkina, Tunisia Reach Group Stage

Ghana, Egypt, Tunisia, Cote d'Ivoire and Cameroon all on Tuesday qualified for the group stage of the 2018 FIFA World Cup African qualifoets after second leg matches.

In Accra, Ghana defeated Comoros 2-0 thanks to goals from Wakaso Mubarak and Jordan Ayew. The first leg in Comoros ended 0-0.

Egypt put their first leg disappointment behind them as they thrashed Chad 4-0 to progress 4-1 on aggregate. The trio of Mohamed El Nenny, Abdalla El Said and Ahmed Hassan Koka (brace) were the scorers for the seven-time Africa Cup of Nations winners.

Reigning African champions Cote d'Ivoire made their superiority count following their 3-0 home win against visiting Liberia. A brace from Giovanni Sio and a goal from Jean Michael Seri led Cote d'Ivoire to victory over the Lone Star.

Former African champions Cameroon were held to a 0-0 draw at home by Niger Republic. But they advanced at the expense of Niger thanks to their 3-0 first leg win in Niamey.

And in Tunis, Tunisia defeated Mauritania 2-1 and booked their place into the group stage on a 4-2 aggregate scoreline.

In other games which saw the qualification of some teams, Algeria smashed Tanzania 7-0, Mali beat Botswana 2-0, Cape Verde defeated Kenya 2-0, Senegal were 3-0 better than Madagascar, Benin succcumb 2-0 away to Burkina Faso, Congo edged Ethiopia 2-1, South Africa pipped Angola 1-0 while Libya thumped Rwanda 3-1.

Twenty teams are through to the final round of the qualifiers. The 20 teams will be placed in five groups with only the group winners qualifying for the World Cup.
