—Chikatara Also Scores Thrice As Abia Edge Rangers
By Adeboye Amosu In Warri:
Gbolahan Salami scored a hat-trick as Warri Wolves beat title rivals, Sunshine Stars, at a rain-soaked Warri City Stadium on Saturday.
The Seasiders as promised prior to the game put their protest over financial entitlements behind them and dominated proceedings from the start but failed to test Sunshine Stars goalkeeper Ikechukwu Ezenwa as the central defensive duo of Kunle Odunlami and Ayinde Kabiru stood firm against the home side's attackers.
Salami who was booked for dissent in the 23rd minute by the centre referee put his side ahead three minutes before the break, blasting the ball home following a brilliant counter-attacking move led by the impressive Joseph Osadiaye.
Kufre Ebong came close to adding a second in added time, but Ezenwa parried the ball away for a corner kick.
On resumption of the second half, Sunshine Stars coach, Kennedy Boboye, introduced the duo of Dele Olorundare and Tamien Medrano for Musa Newman and Sunday Emmanuel.
Both players however failed to rescue their side as Salami struck for the second time in the game.
The Super Eagles hitman nodded the ball home after a wonderful cross by skipper of the side, Goodluck Onamado.
The visitors looked disjointed afterwards as they struggled to cope with the hosts' pace and trickery.
Salami scored his third of the evening slotting the ball home in added time to make it 3-0 for his side.
In the day's other game, Abia Warriors and Rangers played out a 3-3 draw with Umuahia, Chisom Chikatara grabbing a hat-trick.Jiji.ng the cheapest online shopping in Nigeria.
