Gbolahan Salami has quashed reports he could sit out Sunday’s African Nations Championship (CHAN) qualifying match between Nigeria and Burkina Faso due to injury Completesportsnigeria.com can report.
The Warri Wolves striker failed to train with the rest of the squad on Tuesday prompting speculations that he could be a major injury for the game against the Stallions.
He has however poured cold water on rumour, stating he is fit for the game and was only excused from training by the handlers of the side.
“It’s not true that I’m out of the game and I don’t know where the story emanated from,” Salami disclosed to completesportsnigeria.com
“Maybe because i didn’t train with my collegues on Tuesday, that was why they jumped into conclusion that I’m injured.
“But the truth is that I was tired after making the trip from Enugu to Port Harcourt.
“I spoke with the coaches and it was decided I should take the day off.”
Salami has missed a number of games for Wolves this season due to injury.
He returned to action after missing five games for the Seasiders to score a hat-trick against his former Sunshine Stars and was also on song in Sundays’s 1-1 draw against Rangers in Enugu.
He is expected to play a key role for the home- based Eagles side that is seeking a place in the 2016 CHAN tournament that will be hosted by Rwanda next January.
